Leon Galand was born in Montpelier, France, in 1872. He was an painter of the French Impressionist school, and was noted for his beautiful and colorful landscapes. Galand was a recipient of many awards at exhibition, including the Grand Prix of Rome and a gold medal at the Paris Salon. He was awarded the Legion d’Honore for his artistry in 1924. This impressionist oil on canvas, signed lower left, is of the environs of Montpelier, the artist’s hometown. The painting measures 18″x 24″, in a unique 25″x 31″ period frame. Galand has sold at auction internationally at prices averaging over 4,500 US.
